Plot Holes
Any inconsistency which challenges the original flow established by the story's plot. A plot hole is an event which is considered by audiences to be an unlikely occurrence in relation to characters or how something would happen in real life. Examples of plot holes are:
- Illogical/Impossible events within the storyline.
- Quotations or occurrences which contradict previous statements made within the storyline
- Out-of-character incidents.
Continuity/Time-Scheme
The consistency of characteristics as seen by the audience. These include:
- Editing errors, whereby characters may reference events which are yet to occur, or those which are not supposed to be known by said character. These often occur due to the nature of recording, in that episodes and films are not recorded in chronological order.
- Visual errors â e.g, difference in items within a scene between one frame and the next, changes in item colour.
- Audio errors, whereby the soundtrack may be distorted or additionally recorded noise may be heard.
- The rapid or slow ageing of a character in relation to the time span of the programme.
Factual Errors
- Errors made which do not relate to history or events that have occurred in real life. For example, if a character were to wear an item of clothing created during 2008, but claim to be in a setting of 2001, or if characters were to make errors when quoting events of the past. These errors may be the cause of limited research into a particular subject, or availability of props.
Crew/Equipment Visible
- Any point within a TV show or film in which camera equipment or staff may be seen.
Other
- If unsure about where to place information, categorise as 'other', and an admin will order it accordingly.
